Do you ever consider putting up a shed in your yard or garden area? Well building a shed is quite simple and even for those who are not skilled carpenters, just basic skills are needed such as sawing, measuring, and such. As well you will have to be able to properly follow instruction plans.

Everyone knows there are many uses for a shed, and many different options can be used in the design stage. Always make sure you are prepared for any project you choose to accomplish, so always make your plans first and determine what kind of structure you would like to build. Do you want a wooden shed or a metal shed; do you want a solid foundation or pier and beam? Metal roof or shingles?? Are you going to use climate control inside the shed? What about windows and doors, and finishing it out? How cold or hot is your climate, do you need to insulate? Be prepared before you go to the building supply store so you only have to make one trip.

Next you should make sure to get building permits and requirements with your local authorities. A good rule of thumb is to bring your plans into the local authority to make sure your building will pass inspection, very important. Also you may want to see how much your property taxes will go up when you complete the shed. Make sure to schedule in plenty of time to complete the project, and try to schedule the build when there is good weather.

Its time to start building your shed. You should have already chosen your site location as this will help to determine the best foundation for your building. Next you need to measure and stake off the site and prep the ground for the foundation. Next organize all of your building materials where you can see and access them easily. If you are not familiar with basic tools then you may want to find someone who is comfortable using the tools and get them to supervise you. Safety is always rule #1.

Now that you are all set and organized, take out your plans and go over them a time or two to familiarize yourself with the project. I like to keep my plans in a weather proof container in case of spills or rain, etc Some people like to cut as they go and some like to cut all pieces first, whatever is your preference will work fine. Most importantly be sure to always measure at least twice before cutting. Take time to make sure all studs and joists are plumb and level before nailing or screwing in place. You should have your shed dried in in no time with a little help from a friend.

Next it will be time to shingle and side your shed. Once this is completed you can start to work on finishing details such as painting, caulking, and running electricity and water to the building if you desire. Always be sure to caulk well before painting and installing trim and such. Especially around windows and doors. For any problems you may encounter try to find answers online or by consulting a building specialist. Now that you have finished building your garden shed you can call the inspector and have the final inspection done. It is time to enjoy your new shed!
